Ultherapy & Thermage in Seoul, Korea: 15+ Years of Experience at VELDERMA Clinic
A doctor's guide to natural-looking facial lifting, preventing unwanted facial fat loss, treatment costs, and choosing the right clinic in Seoul.
By Dr. Woongchul Jang & Dr. Donghyuk Jeon| Medical Director, VELDERMA Clinic, Seoul, South Korea

Looking for Ultherapy or Thermage During Your Visit to Korea?
If you live in the United States and are planning a trip to Seoul, you may have considered getting Ultherapy or Thermage while you're here.
It's a question we hear increasingly often at VELDERMA Clinic.
Many of our Korean-American patients already know about these treatments. Some have even received them in Los Angeles, New York, or other American cities. What they want to know is whether they can receive the same treatment in Korea, at a more reasonable price, without compromising on the quality of care.
That's a fair question.
South Korea has become a popular destination for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. But with so many clinics in Gangnam offering Ultherapy, Thermage, and other lifting treatments, choosing the right doctor isn't always easy.
I've been performing Ultherapy since 2010 and have over 15 years of experience with energy-based facial lifting, including Thermage.
Over those years, I've learned something important: The goal of a good lifting treatment isn't simply to make your face smaller or tighter.
It's to help you look naturally younger while preserving the facial features that make you look like yourself.
And that distinction matters more than many patients realize.

1. Ultherapy vs. Thermage: Which Is Better for Your Face?
Ultherapy and Thermage are two of the most widely recognized nonsurgical skin-tightening treatments.
They both stimulate collagen remodeling, but they use different forms of energy and serve somewhat different purposes.
Ultherapy: Lifting and Defining Facial Contours
Ultherapy uses microfocused ultrasound energy to target tissue at different depths beneath the skin.
The device incorporates real-time ultrasound imaging, allowing the physician to visualize tissue layers and select the appropriate treatment depth.
At VELDERMA Clinic, we frequently consider Ultherapy for patients concerned about:
Sagging along the jawline
Early jowls and lower-face laxity
Loose skin beneath the chin
Loss of facial definition
Mild to moderate skin laxity
One reason patients like Ultherapy is that a successful treatment may give the lower face a more defined, lifted appearance.
However, Ultherapy is not intended to be a general facial fat-reduction treatment.
For many people, preserving natural facial volume is just as important as improving sagging.
Thermage FLX: Improving Skin Firmness and Wrinkles
Thermage FLX uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to heat tissue and stimulate collagen remodeling.
While Ultherapy is often selected for its lifting-oriented approach, Thermage is particularly useful when skin firmness, texture, and wrinkles are the main concerns.
We commonly consider Thermage FLX for:
Loose or crepey-looking skin
Fine lines and wrinkles
Reduced skin elasticity
Mild facial laxity
Patients seeking gradual, natural-looking skin tightening
Thermage FLX also incorporates cooling and vibration technology to improve comfort during treatment.
Quick Comparison
| Ultherapy | Thermage FLX | |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Microfocused ultrasound | Monopolar radiofrequency |
| Main focus | Lifting and skin tightening | Skin tightening and wrinkles |
| Treatment approach | Selected tissue depths | RF heating and collagen remodeling |
| Common concerns | Jawline, jowls, laxity | Elasticity, wrinkles, skin texture |
| Results | Gradual, often 2–3 months | Gradual, often 2–6 months |
| Recovery | Usually minimal | Usually minimal |
The best choice depends on your facial anatomy, skin condition, and expectations.
In some cases, we recommend Ultherapy. In others, Thermage may be more appropriate. For selected patients, combining the two can address different aspects of facial aging.
We don't believe everyone needs both.
2. Can Ultherapy Cause Facial Fat Loss or Hollow Cheeks?

This is probably one of the most important questions patients should ask before choosing an Ultherapy clinic.
And it's a question I take seriously.
A common concern among Korean-American patients is whether Ultherapy could make their cheeks look hollow or cause unwanted facial fat loss.
The concern is understandable.
As we age, facial volume naturally changes. The temples, cheeks, and areas beneath the cheekbones can gradually lose fullness, while tissue in the lower face may begin to sag.
These changes often happen at the same time.
An area that needs lifting is not necessarily an area where you want to lose volume.
That is why I believe facial analysis before treatment is so important.
How We Approach Facial Volume Preservation at VELDERMA
After more than 15 years of Ultherapy experience, I've developed several principles that guide my treatment planning.
First: Identify which areas need lifting and which areas need volume preservation.
A patient may have relatively hollow upper cheeks but noticeable sagging around the jawline.
In that situation, treating the entire face with an identical approach may not be appropriate.
Instead, I assess where the skin and supporting tissues are lax and where additional volume loss would be undesirable.
Second: Customize treatment depth and energy.
Ultherapy provides treatment options at depths including 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm.
These are not interchangeable settings.
Skin thickness, subcutaneous fat distribution, facial anatomy, and the intended treatment area all influence the choice of depth and energy.
Real-time ultrasound visualization can help guide treatment placement, but the physician must still decide how that information should be used.
Third: More treatment lines do not automatically mean better results.
Some patients assume that 600 Ultherapy lines must always produce a better result than 300 lines.
That's not necessarily true.
A patient with a small, thin face may need a very different treatment plan from someone with a fuller face and significant lower-face sagging.
My goal is not to deliver as many lines as possible.
It is to use an appropriate number of lines in the right areas, with the right settings, for that particular face.
Can an Experienced Doctor Completely Prevent Facial Fat Loss?
No physician can honestly guarantee that Ultherapy will never cause unwanted volume changes.
Although uncommon in published clinical studies, subcutaneous fat atrophy has been reported following microfocused ultrasound treatments.
Our approach at VELDERMA is therefore to minimize unnecessary exposure of volume-sensitive areas while focusing treatment on the structures that need tightening.
The goal is a more youthful contour, not an unnaturally hollow or overtreated appearance.
3. Why 15+ Years of Experience Matters
I began practicing aesthetic medicine in Seoul in 2008, and started performing Ultherapy in 2010.
Since then, I've worked with multiple generations of lifting technologies, from earlier Thermage systems to today's Thermage FLX, Ultherapy PRIME, Sofwave, and other energy-based devices.
One thing has become very clear to me over the years.
Two patients of the same age can require completely different treatments.
One 45-year-old patient may have noticeable jowls and relatively thick skin. Another may have very little facial fat, hollow cheeks, and fine wrinkles.
Recommending the same Ultherapy treatment to both patients simply because they're the same age doesn't make sense.
Experience helps a physician recognize these differences and decide when a treatment should be adjusted—or avoided.
At VELDERMA, our treatment philosophy is based on three principles:
Personalized assessment: We evaluate facial anatomy, skin laxity, and volume distribution before recommending a procedure.
Authentic equipment and treatment tips: We use genuine Ultherapy and Thermage treatment tips and explain the planned treatment count.
Natural-looking results: We aim to improve facial firmness and contours without unnecessarily changing the patient's natural appearance.
Our clinic reports more than 10,000 cumulative Ultherapy procedures and has extensive experience with multiple generations of Thermage.
This experience is particularly valuable when patients are deciding between different lifting technologies.
4. Meet the Doctors at VELDERMA Clinic
VELDERMA Clinic, formerly known as W Clinic, has served patients in the Gangnam area of Seoul for many years.
Our two locations are led by physicians who graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine, one of South Korea's established medical schools.
Dr. Woong Chul Jang — Samseong Station Branch

Dr. Jang graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine and received clinical training at Severance Hospital.
He began practicing aesthetic medicine in 2008 and has been performing Ultherapy since 2010, with extensive experience in Thermage, fillers, Sculptra, and other nonsurgical facial treatments.
His approach emphasizes facial anatomy, appropriate treatment depth, and preserving natural facial contours.
Dr. Dong Hyuk Jeon — Gangnam Branch

Dr. Jeon also graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine and trained at Severance Hospital.
He has extensive experience with aesthetic treatments, including energy-based lifting, and leads VELDERMA's Gangnam location.
Both branches offer individualized consultations and access to a broad selection of nonsurgical aesthetic treatments.
VELDERMA Clinic is the new name of W Clinic. Our rebranding does not mean that we are a newly established clinic.
5. How Much Do Ultherapy and Thermage Cost in Seoul?
Cost is one of the reasons patients living in the United States consider receiving Ultherapy or Thermage in South Korea.
However, it's important to compare treatments fairly.
The number of Ultherapy lines, the number of Thermage pulses, the treatment area, the device generation, and whether other procedures are included can all affect the final price.
At VELDERMA, we offer several treatment options depending on a patient's needs.
VELDERMA October 2026 Promotional Prices
| Treatment package | Price (KRW) |
|---|---|
| Ultherapy 300 lines + ONDA 60,000 J (Gangnam branch) | ₩990,000 |
| Ultherapy PRIME 300 lines + ONDA 60,000 J (Samseong branch) | ₩1,090,000 |
| Ultherapy 300 lines + Enlighten Pico 3 sessions + Genesis 3 sessions | ₩1,490,000 |
| Thermage FLX 600 pulses + Enlighten Pico 4 sessions + Genesis 4 sessions | ₩2,490,000 |
Pricing notes: Promotional packages are valid through October 31, 2026. Prices exclude 10% VAT. The listed amounts are package prices, not stand-alone Ultherapy or Thermage prices. Eligibility, availability, and treatment schedules should be confirmed before booking.
For patients interested in Ultherapy or Thermage alone, we recommend requesting a personalized quotation.
When comparing clinics, remember to check exactly what is included in the quoted price.
A lower price does not necessarily mean an equivalent treatment, and a higher price does not automatically guarantee a better outcome.
6. What Results Can You Expect, and How Long Do They Last?
Neither Ultherapy nor Thermage should be expected to produce the same result as a surgical facelift.
They are nonsurgical treatments designed to improve selected signs of skin aging.
Ultherapy Results
Patients may notice some early changes, but visible lifting generally develops over approximately two to three months as collagen remodeling progresses.
Improvement can continue for several months, and some patients maintain a visible benefit for a year or longer.
Thermage FLX Results
Some patients notice early skin tightening, but the changes generally become more apparent over two to six months.
Results may last a year or longer, depending on age, skin condition, and other individual factors.
Does Treatment Hurt?
Pain tolerance varies considerably.
Some patients find Ultherapy uncomfortable, particularly in areas where the energy reaches deeper tissue. Others tolerate it surprisingly well.
Thermage FLX uses integrated cooling and vibration to improve comfort, although patients can still experience significant heating sensations.
We discuss discomfort, expected results, and possible adverse effects before recommending treatment.
Common temporary effects include redness, swelling, and tenderness. Less common complications may include burns, sensory changes, nerve-related symptoms, or unwanted changes in facial contour.
7. Visiting Korea for Just a Week? What Should You Know?
Many Korean-American patients schedule aesthetic treatments during family visits, business trips, or vacations in Seoul.
Fortunately, Ultherapy and Thermage generally require little downtime, making them practical options for appropriately selected patients with limited time in Korea.
Most people can resume routine activities relatively quickly.
However, individual recovery varies, and temporary swelling, tenderness, or bruising can occur.
For overseas visitors, we recommend arranging a consultation early in the trip rather than automatically scheduling treatment immediately before the return flight.
This allows time to discuss medical history, evaluate treatment suitability, and address any early concerns.
Aftercare Following Ultherapy or Thermage
After treatment, patients should:
Follow their physician's individualized instructions.
Use gentle skincare products if the skin feels sensitive.
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly.
Avoid activities that worsen significant redness or discomfort until symptoms settle.
Contact the clinic if unusual pain, blistering, persistent numbness, facial weakness, or other unexpected symptoms occur.
Routine recovery is usually straightforward, but a medical procedure should never be treated as completely risk-free.
For patients returning to the United States, we can discuss follow-up planning and how to contact the clinic if questions arise after leaving Korea.
8. English-Speaking Assistance and International Appointments
You shouldn't have to struggle with language barriers when discussing a medical procedure.

VELDERMA Clinic offers English-language appointment assistance for international patients, including Korean-Americans visiting Seoul.
Our staff can help with treatment inquiries, pricing information, scheduling, and practical questions before your visit.
For medical decisions, the physician will assess your concerns and explain the recommended approach. Please confirm the availability of English-language medical consultation when booking.
You can contact us before arriving in Korea, especially if you have a short travel schedule.

9. Frequently Asked Questions About Ultherapy and Thermage in Korea
Is Ultherapy in Korea the same treatment available in the United States?
Ultherapy and Ultherapy PRIME are internationally recognized branded systems. However, treatment protocols and the number of lines can vary from clinic to clinic.
VELDERMA uses genuine Ultherapy treatment tips and provides information about the planned line count. Patients should also confirm the exact device and treatment area before proceeding.
Will Ultherapy make my face look too thin?
Ultherapy does not inevitably cause facial fat loss, but unwanted facial volume changes have been reported.
Patients with thin faces or pre-existing hollow cheeks should be evaluated carefully. At VELDERMA, treatment planning emphasizes identifying areas that need lifting while preserving volume-sensitive areas where appropriate.
Is Thermage better than Ultherapy for thin faces?
Not necessarily, but Thermage may be worth considering when improving skin firmness and fine wrinkles is a greater priority than deeper lifting.
The right choice depends on the patient's anatomy and treatment goals. Neither procedure is free from potential side effects.
Can I get Ultherapy and Thermage together?
Selected patients may benefit from a combination of ultrasound-based lifting and radiofrequency skin tightening.
However, combining treatments is not always necessary. The physician should determine whether the expected benefits justify the additional treatment.
How far in advance should I book?
If you are visiting Korea for only a few days, contacting the clinic before your arrival is recommended.
Share your preferred dates, desired treatment, and any previous facial procedures so that the clinic can help arrange an appropriate consultation.
What is the best clinic for Ultherapy or Thermage in Seoul?
There is no single clinic that is best for every patient.
When comparing providers, consider the physician's experience, the quality of the consultation, the use of authentic equipment and tips, transparent pricing, and whether the treatment plan accounts for your individual facial anatomy.
For patients who value a conservative, anatomy-based approach to nonsurgical lifting, VELDERMA Clinic offers more than 15 years of relevant clinical experience.
10. A Final Word From Dr. Jang
After spending more than 15 years performing Ultherapy and Thermage treatments, I still believe that the most important part of facial rejuvenation happens before the device is switched on.
It's the decision about what should be treated—and what should be left alone.
A beautifully defined jawline means little if the patient ends up feeling that their cheeks look too hollow.
Likewise, treating skin laxity aggressively is not always the right answer for someone whose main concern is loss of facial volume.
At VELDERMA, our goal is to help patients look refreshed, naturally lifted, and comfortable with their appearance.
We focus on lifting where it is needed, preserving facial volume where appropriate, and choosing treatments based on the individual—not simply on the number of lines or pulses.
If you're visiting Seoul from the United States and are considering Ultherapy or Thermage, we welcome you to contact VELDERMA Clinic for a personalized consultation.
We believe that good aesthetic medicine should help you look like a well-rested, refreshed version of yourself—not like a different person.
